Heavily Armed Gang Ambushes Prison Van, Frees Inmate in France

Suspect Had Attempted Escape Days Earlier

Under Close Supervision at Time of Attack

A heavily armed gang ambushed a prison van in France, freeing a 30-year-old inmate named Mohamed Amra.

Amra was being transported to Évreux jail after a court hearing in Rouen when the van was ambushed on the A154 highway near the Incarville tollbooth.

Amra was supposed to be under close supervision at the time of the attack, as he had attempted to escape from prison just two days earlier by sawing the bars from his cell.

According to Le Parisien, Amra had been indicted by prosecutors in Marseille for a kidnapping that led to a death.

The ambush is a reminder of the ongoing security challenges facing French authorities, particularly in the wake of recent terrorist attacks. It also raises questions about the adequacy of prison security measures and the ability of authorities to prevent prison breaks.
