The Wall Street Journal Reporter Detained in Russia

Evan Gershkovich's Case Draws International Attention

Moscow Court to Hear Second Hearing in Trial

Evan Gershkovich, a reporter for The Wall Street Journal, is set to appear in court in Moscow on Thursday for the second hearing of his trial on espionage charges. The charges stem from Gershkovich's detention by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) in December 2022 while he was on a reporting trip.

The case has drawn international attention and condemnation, with the United States and other countries calling for Gershkovich's immediate release. The Wall Street Journal has called the charges against Gershkovich "baseless" and has vowed to continue to fight for his freedom.

Gershkovich, a U.S. citizen, has been held in custody in Moscow since his arrest. His trial began in September 2023, and the first hearing was held on September 19th. During the first hearing, the prosecution presented its case, which included evidence that Gershkovich was allegedly collecting classified information for the U.S. government.

The second hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am Moscow time on Thursday, October 26th. The hearing is expected to last for several days, and the court will hear from witnesses from both the prosecution and the defense.
